Baking French Bread

I’m bored.
I didn’t go to the wrestling match because of the ice storm.
I worked from home because of the ice storm.
HannahBanana is asleep and I’m bored.
So I’m making bread.

My parents got me a bread machine a couple of years ago and I don’t seem use it enough. I opted for French bread because I got an ubercool batard bread pan and I’ve never used it.

I’m using the machine for the mixing, initial kneading and rising of the bread. I’ll remove the dough before the final rise and shape it into my pan and then let it rise again before I bake it in the conventional oven. At least that is my plan. Right now I’m just mesmerized by the whole mixing cycle. Apparently, that is why they put a window on the machine. For nuts like me.

  • The ice storm was turned out to be somewhat of a bust, but it’s good to play it safe. I stayed home and happened to get my first picture of a fox (it’s up on my photoblog).

  • I’ve been mezmorized by the whirring of a bread machine before. It’s more interesting that a lot of what’s on daytime tv!

  • The “ice storm” or the threat of it kept me from two trips (up and back, up and back) to WVU this weekend. I didn’t bake bread, but I poached salmon.
