Thin Mints, Sweetener, My Tastebuds, General Weirdness

So random question. Did they change or alter the recipe for Thin Mints? They taste odd to me this year. I normally look forward to my Girl Scout Cookies, but these aren’t as minty as I remember them. Either that or my taste buds have changed.

Which I guess is possible. I’m two and a half months into my sweetener-free existence. I gave it up at Christmas. My ban also includes food that contains sweetener. I’ve been using natural sugars, like honey and maple syrup instead. Berries and fruit are tasting much sweeter to me these days, but the thin mints taste off. Are they related? Weird.

  • I had some the other day and didn’t notice it tasting different. But what I did notice was that the Samoas (now called caramel delights) are still as delicious as ever!

  • I didn’t notice a difference, but I practically swallowed them whole, so…

  • Not being a Girl Scout cookie sophisticate, I didn’t notice the change. But the other night we had some with some friends and everyone but me noticed the change. So you’re not imagining it.

I did notice the damn things are addictive, however.

  • It’s definitely NOT your imagination. I was looking forward to my Thin Mints and was horrified when I tasted them this year. Of course, my husband (who’s much less fussy) didn’t notice the difference and was happy to take them off my hands.

  • Definitely a change this year! They’re flakier (in a “not better than before” way). They’re lighter (also in a “not better than before” way). The more I thought about this thin mint recipe change issue, the more i realized that outside of a very small group of Thin Mint purists, no one really cares. Other than occupying a few random blogs or discussion groups for a few weeks, the new recipe would ultiimately supplant the old without any fanfare.

How many other things in are lives go through small subtle changes for the worse without any fanfare, resistance, or comment?

  • LOL.. the direct withdrawl out of our paychecks for federal, state and social security taxes… if they go up little by little every year, you adjust slowly.

  • NO it is not your just you. Just open my 1st box of the season and noticed right away. they are not as minty and they have an after taste. My coworker says she can still feel the after taste and we ate them over 1 hour ago. I for one am not HAPPY. BRING BACK THE OLD THIN MINTS!!!!
