Just Like Magnum

Only, it’s nothing like Magnum. In order to pass the time and make a little cash while I wait for my dream job to come knocking, I agreed to help my mom with some of her caseload.

Oh wait. Let me back up.

Many years ago, when I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, I got my Private Investigator’s license. I worked as a PI for a company for a couple of years before I got into the web racket. Because the license is really easy to keep and not so easy to get, I kept it current. Turns out, I was a brilliant forward-thinker, because this little gem is going to allow me to make some money for the foreseeable future. (Go me!)

My mom runs her own PI business. I’ve been moonlighting for her for years. It turns out that mortgage fraud is smoking hot right now and she has more cases than she can realistically handle. So I’m going to help her. Typically, she handles insurance cases and the occasional case for government law enforcement as it relates to environmental issues. I think she dreams about me taking over for her when she retires. Truth is, she is fantastic at what she does and I don’t know that I could ever fill her shoes. It’s fun to help though. It gives me a break from all the Internet/Social Networking mumbo-jumbo I deal with on a daily basis. Plus, I love making the unsuspecting person do a double-take when I mention that my mom and I are PIs.. just like Magnum.

  • Seriously. That is so cool. Definitely fodder for a novel someday, don’t you think?

Heh, yeah. I’ve been trying for years. Unfortunately, it’s not that sexy doing records searches. Hopefully, this experience with the fraud will give me some good material.

  • That’s pretty exciting, actually! Sounds like the kind of job I’d choose to have for a lot longer than 2 weeks. Have fun and share any juicy stories!

  • So…. do you allow ride-alongs like the cops??? Huh? Huh?
